Description:
EDOM
DETACHMENT stars Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he’s not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world.

The East Texas Daylily Society will meet on at Tyler Municipal Rose Garden Center.
Program: ETDS member, Doug McKemie, shows PowerPoint slides to illustrate the steps, tools and techniques he uses to breed (hybridize) daylilies. He also explains how to collect and grow the resulting seed. If you’re interested in creating your own daylily hybrids, this program is for you!
Note: Our June meeting has been cancelled. That meeting will be “replaced” by a club excursion to view several nearby daylily gardens. Mid-late May is typically the time of peak daylily bloom in the Tyler area. Take advantage of this opportunity and visit one or more daylily gardens!
Visitors and new members are always welcome at our meetings. Come join in the fun! Refreshments will be served. For more info, contact Bill or Dee at 903-670-3302.

There are more than 100,000 girls who fall victim to sex trafficking in America each year. Wellspring Living and The White Umbrella Campaign are working together to share with communities the vision to rescue, restore and renew victims in America. The White Umbrella Campaign has partnered with Tyler-based Restore a Voice to educate, encourage and empower communities to take a stand against the issue and walk with survivors of sex trafficking in your city.
The White Umbrella Campaign brings together local organizations, churches, law enforcement and community leaders currently working together to confront the issue through a community round table on May 16 that will serve to unite and connect all sectors of the community to raise awareness and action against sexual exploitation. The morning will bring together key decision makers, local authorities/law enforcement, and others.

David Berkeley is an evocative singer-songwriter with, "Emotional story-telling lyrics, charismatic stage presence, and hilarious anecdotes" (June Wulff, THE BOSTON GLOBE). Dubbed, “A musical poet” by the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, David was named one of WXPN's “Artists to Watch,” wrote his song “Fire Sign” for the CBS series Without a Trace and went on to perform on World Café, Mountain Stage, XM’s Loft Sessions, WFUV with John Platt and radio and television stations across the country. He received ASCAP’s Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award and, perhaps most notably, performed on PRI’s This American Life. Don't miss this evening with the enchanting David Berkeley featuring songs from his new album, THE FIRE IN MY HEAD.
With opening act Shawn James. Born on the south side of Chicago, Shawn James had a hardworking, kind mother and a gambling, abusive, drunk father. He grew up singing in church and was drawn to the emotional and ethereal power that music could have over people. It was there that he found his escape and learned how to harness his unique, soulful voice.
Shawn now lives in Fayetteville, Ark., playing a raw, haunting mix of Blues, Folk, and Soul music. You might catch him playing on the street in the rain some night, rockin' at a bar while you get rowdy, or you might just find him performing an intimate set for friends at a house show. No matter where you see him, just make sure you have your eyes and ears open, his performance will be one you won't forget.
Tickets: $18 online or $20 at the door.
