In late 1949, Frances Martin arrived in Tyler from Dubuque, Iowa to begin a 32-year career in hotel management. Eager to make new friends, she asked a city hostess if there was an organization of new residents in the area. Finding none, she set about to create the Newcomers Club of Tyler. Frances invited eight recent transplants to her home, where in March 1950 they formulated a constitution and by-laws to establish the Club whose sole objective would be "for friendship and fellowship of new residents." The purpose of the Club remains the same today to foster new friendships and to help new residents feel "at home". We meet once a month for social, games and lunch and have many satilitte groups who meet to enjoy games and special interests such as gardening, literary, antiques, crafts, movies and dining out. We are open to any person who is a new resident of the area within the last two years.
